Choose by coverage

Start with the names you need to protect.

Coverage and validation are separate choices. List your domains and subdomains first.

ONE WEBSITE

Single-domain SSL

Cover the website name listed on your certificate. Check whether both example.com and www.example.com are included before ordering.

ONE DOMAIN, MORE SERVICES

Wildcard SSL

Use *.example.com for same-level subdomains such as shop.example.com and mail.example.com. Deeper names need their own coverage.

SEVERAL WEBSITE NAMES

Multi-domain SSL

List separate domains or hostnames on one certificate. Check the included name allowance and the cost of extra names.

SSL for your next step

Find SSL that fits your needs.

From one website to a growing portfolio, choose the coverage, validation level and certificate brand that fit your project. Compare plans for your current setup and the services you plan to add.

Build your SSL shortlist

1

Coverage

Match the certificate to your domain names.

2

Identity

Add organisation validation when required.

3

Compatibility

Check custom SSL installation on your host.

Choose by validation

What does the certificate verify?

All three options support encrypted HTTPS. The difference is the identity information checked before issuance.

DOMAIN VALIDATION

DV: Domain validation

DV checks that you control the requested domain. It is a practical choice when you need HTTPS without organisation identity checks.

ORGANISATION VALIDATION

OV: Organisation validation

OV checks domain control and organisation details. Choose it when your project needs verified business information in the certificate.

EXTENDED VALIDATION

EV: Extended validation

EV uses additional organisation checks. Choose it for an identity-verification requirement, not a promise of stronger encryption or a green browser bar.

SSL certificate FAQs

Which SSL certificate should I choose?

Choose the names you need to cover first, then the identity checks you need. These are two separate decisions.

  • One website: choose single-domain coverage and check whether both the main domain and www are included.
  • Several subdomains: choose a wildcard for names such as shop.example.com and mail.example.com.
  • Different domains: choose a multi-domain certificate and check the number of names included.

Use the group tabs above, then narrow the results by coverage, validation level and brand. Compare SSL certificates.

How much does an SSL certificate cost?

Our current entry offer is AskSSL™ Starter: ₦7,500.00 — Billed yearly. The price shown on each certificate card is the full charge for its selected billing term.

  • Coverage: a wildcard or multi-domain product has different pricing from a single-domain certificate.
  • Validation and brand: compare the certificate type your project needs.
  • Additional names: a multi-domain base price covers its included allowance; extra names may cost more.

Choose an available billing term on the card to update the price and order link together.

Do I need paid SSL if my hosting includes free SSL?

Not necessarily. Our web hosting plans include free automated SSL. If it covers your site and renews correctly, it may already meet your HTTPS needs.

A separate certificate can be useful when you need:

  • Organisation or extended validation for a business requirement.
  • A particular certificate brand or product.
  • A coverage arrangement that your existing hosting SSL does not provide.

Check your current certificate and hosting settings before buying another. Explore our web hosting plans or ask us which option fits.

What is the difference between SSL and TLS?

SSL is the familiar product name; modern HTTPS connections use TLS. You will often see the terms used together as SSL/TLS.

  • The certificate identifies the server for the domain names it covers.
  • TLS encrypts data travelling between a visitor’s browser and your server.
  • HTTPS is the secure connection your website uses once TLS is configured.

A certificate protects the connection. It does not remove malware, fix vulnerable plugins or replace website backups.

Does a wildcard cover every domain and subdomain?

No. A wildcard covers subdomains at one level of a particular domain. For example, *.example.com can cover:

  • shop.example.com
  • mail.example.com
  • support.example.com

It does not cover example.net or a deeper name such as app.shop.example.com. Check that example.com itself is also included in the certificate’s names.

If you need several different domains as well as wildcard coverage, compare the multi-domain wildcard products.

What do DV, OV and EV mean?

These are validation levels: they describe what the issuing authority checks before issuing a certificate.

  • DV — Domain Validation: verifies control of the requested domain.
  • OV — Organisation Validation: also checks the organisation’s identity and details.
  • EV — Extended Validation: applies more extensive organisation-verification requirements.

They are not three grades of encryption. Choose OV or EV when your project requires verified organisation information, and allow time for the additional checks.

Will the certificate show a green address bar?

No certificate should be chosen on a promise of a green address bar. Browser interfaces have changed, and the indicators vary between browsers and devices.

OV and EV certificates carry verified organisation information in the certificate details. That is separate from how the browser chooses to display connection information.

Choose your certificate for its coverage and validation requirements. After installation, check that the site opens over HTTPS without certificate errors.

What do I need to activate my certificate?

Prepare the covered names and access needed for validation before you order.

  1. List the exact names: include the main domain, www and any required subdomains or additional domains.
  2. Generate a CSR if required: create the certificate signing request on the server or control panel that will use the certificate. Keep the matching private key secure.
  3. Complete domain validation: follow the supported method provided for your order, such as a DNS record or a website verification file.
  4. Supply organisation details: OV and EV products require additional checks and may require supporting documents.

Once issued, install the certificate and intermediate chain on your server. Contact us if you need help with your setup.

How long does issuance take?

Issuance depends on successful validation, not just payment. Domain-validated certificates can be issued quickly once the checks pass; OV and EV involve additional organisation checks.

To avoid preventable delays:

  • Use the exact domain names required in your order and CSR.
  • Make the requested validation file or DNS record accessible.
  • Provide complete organisation details and respond to verification requests.
  • Check the order status for a failed or pending validation step.

We do not promise a fixed issuance time for every order. Issuance and installation are separate steps.

Does yearly billing mean the certificate lasts a year?

No. Your paid subscription term and the expiry date of an issued certificate are different. Public TLS certificates have shorter validity periods, so reissuance may be needed during your paid term.

  • Billing term: the period you pay for when ordering the product.
  • Certificate validity: the dates during which an individual issued certificate can be used.
  • Reissuance and installation: obtaining and installing a replacement before the current certificate expires.

Monitor the installed certificate’s expiry date. Do not assume paying a renewal invoice installs a replacement certificate automatically. Read Sectigo’s current validity guidance.

Can I use the certificate with another hosting provider?

Yes, provided your hosting service supports installing a compatible custom certificate. You do not have to move your domain registration simply to use a certificate.

Before ordering, confirm:

  • Your host allows custom SSL certificates on your plan.
  • You or the host can generate the CSR and retain the matching private key.
  • The required certificate format and intermediate-chain installation steps.
  • Who will install replacement certificates when reissuance is due.

Some managed platforms control SSL themselves. Check with that platform before buying a separate certificate.

Why does my site still show a warning after installation?

Start with the exact warning: certificate errors and mixed-content issues need different fixes.

  1. Check the hostname: the certificate must cover the address being visited, including www or the required subdomain.
  2. Check validity: make sure the installed certificate is current and the device clock is correct.
  3. Check the chain: install the required intermediate certificates with the server certificate.
  4. Check page assets: replace old HTTP links to images, scripts or stylesheets with HTTPS versions where supported.
  5. Check redirects: test the main domain, www, forms and any separate application hostnames.

Send our team the affected URL and exact warning so we can help identify the next step.

How To Choose The Right SSL Certificate in Nigeria

When shopping for an SSL Certificate in Nigeria, there are different types to choose from but are categorized into two:

These types of SSLs are only issued after you’ve verified the legitimacy of domains.

Domain validation (DV) SSL Certificates

Domain Validation (DV) SSL Certificates are a type of SSL Certificate that is issued by a Certificate Authority (CA) after verifying that the entity requesting the certificate owns the domain name for which the certificate is being requested. This type of SSL Certificate is useful for websites that do not require a high level of security, as it is the least expensive and most quickly issued type of SSL Certificate.

Organization Validation (OV) SSL Certificates

Organization Validation (OV) SSL Certificates are a specific type of SSL Certificate that is used to verify the organization that is behind a website. OV SSL Certificates are used to ensure that the website is actually owned and operated by the organization that is stated in the certificate and not by someone who has stolen the identity of the organization. This is done by verifying the organization’s details, such as its registered name and address, against public records.

Extended Validation (EV) SSL Certificates

EV SSL certificates are a type of security certificate that offer extended validation. This means that the issuing certificate authority (CA) performs a more rigorous identity verification process before issuing the certificate. This helps to ensure that the site owner is who they say they are, and that the site is legitimate. EV SSL certificates offer a higher level of security than standard SSL certificates, and are therefore ideal for online businesses that handle sensitive information.

These types of SSL Certificates depends on the number of domains (or subdomains) you’d like to secure.

Single domain SSL certificates

A single domain SSL certificate is a type of SSL certificate that is used to secure a single website or domain name. A single domain SSL certificate is a less expensive and less complicated option than a multi-domain SSL certificate, which can be used to secure multiple websites or domains.

Wildcard SSL Certificates

A wildcard SSL certificate allows you to secure an unlimited number of subdomains, as well as multiple domains, with a single certificate. This can be a great option if you have many subdomains that need to be secured, or if you want to make it easier for your users to access your site. Wildcard certificates can also help save money by allowing you to purchase one certificate instead of multiple certificates.

Multi-Domain SSL Certificates

Multi-Domain SSL Certificates allow you to secure multiple domains with a single certificate. This can be helpful if you have multiple domains that you want to secure with a single certificate, or if you want to consolidate multiple certificates into one. Multi-Domain SSL Certificates are also sometimes called Unified Communications (UC) Certificates, because they can be used to secure multiple communication channels, such as email, voice, and video.
