Why is my domain locked
Domain locks are a security feature to prevent unauthorized transfers. Most registrars automatically lock domains to keep them safe.
How do I unlock my domain?
You can unlock your domain from your current registrar’s dashboard. If you are unsure how, contact their support, or let us guide you.
I tried unlocking but it won’t work. Why?
ICANN rules state that certain domains cannot be unlocked if they have been registered or transferred in the past 60 days. Ensure to verify the age of your domain or reach out to your current provider for assistance.
The transfer process for a .NG domain typically takes 5 – 7 days to complete. While for international domain extensions e.g .com, .net and .org, central registry requires at most 5 days to complete the transfer request.
What may take a few more minutes is the transfer of your files, since this depends on other factors such as how huge your files are. But typically, your files will be in your new hosting in an hour tops.
Can domains be changed or altered during transfer?
No. Your domain name remains exactly the same. Transferring only changes the registrar that manages it. Your content, emails, and website stay safe and untouched.
Also, for security reasons, while your domain is being transferred, you may not modify your domain details, including:
- Whois / RDRP registration details
- Nameservers
- Domain renewal.
You will be able to resume these modifications once the domain transfer is completed.
