How Much Does a .ng Domain Cost in Nigeria?

A direct .ng domain costs ₦13,500.00 for the first year when you register with Truehost. Renewal costs ₦15,000.00 per year, while transferring an existing direct .ng domain to us costs ₦0.00.

Those three figures answer different questions. The registration amount is due when you buy a new name, the renewal rate keeps it active after the first term, and the transfer amount applies when you move a domain that you already own.

I tested our current .ng order flow on 25 August 2026. It showed the registration and renewal lines before payment, offered terms from one to five years, and kept optional services separate from the domain itself.

I stopped at Review & Checkout without entering personal details, accepting the terms or paying.

1) The direct .ng price has three parts

NiRA does not set one compulsory retail price for every customer. Its registrar FAQ says accredited registrars set their own fees and may attach different services. That explains why another provider can quote a different amount for the same extension.

This page covers yourname.ng, the direct second-level address. It does not quote the prices of yourname.com.ng, yourname.name.ng, yourname.edu.ng or other zones inside the wider .ng namespace.

2) Your term changes the amount due now

NiRA permits a registration term of one to five years. Our configuration screen offered all five choices during the test.

For one year, the amount due today is the registration price. If you keep the name for a second year, the two payments are:

First two years: ₦13,500.00 for registration + ₦15,000.00 for the next renewal.

The multi-year selector needs closer attention. In our test, the two-, three-, four- and five-year options used the current renewal rate for every selected year. The two-year upfront option therefore did not apply the lower first-year registration amount to year one.

A one-year purchase keeps today’s payment lower. A longer term reduces your exposure to a future renewal-price change and removes annual renewal work for the selected period. Compare the displayed totals and choose which trade-off matters more to you.

3) Optional services can exceed the domain price

Our checkout kept the direct .ng registration separate from hosting and three domain services. On 25 August 2026, the configuration screen displayed:

• ID Protection at ₦1,500 per year;

• Email Forwarding at ₦0 per year; and

• Domain Vault at ₦30,000 per year.

You can register the domain without adding hosting on that screen. Treat each service as a separate buying decision. Open its description and connect it to a requirement you actually have before adding it to the order.

The order total should therefore follow this model:

Amount due today = selected domain term + chosen optional services.

An optional security service (Domain Vault) may still suit a high-value name, but it should not look like part of the basic .ng fee.

4) A transfer price is not a new registration price

The transfer amount applies only when you already control a direct .ng domain at another registrar and move it to us.

Our current transfer price for .ng domain is ₦0.00. Before moving a domain, check its expiry date and the term shown after the transfer completes.

Do not assume that every zero-cost transfer adds another registration year; transfer and renewal rules vary by registry and order state.

If your main decision is where to keep several Nigerian domains, use the registrar comparison instead.

5) Late recovery is not part of normal ownership cost

Renewing before expiry costs ₦15,000.00 at the current rate.

Recovery after expiry may add another charge and can interrupt the website or email attached to the name.

NiRA’s lifecycle policy describes a 60-day renewal grace period. It treats the first 30 days as penalty-free, suspends services during the later part of that period, and then provides a 28-day redemption period with a restoration fee.

Our current billing catalogue uses different operational labels for the direct .ng grace and redemption configuration.

Because a domain’s live status determines what the system will allow, ask our support team for the exact recovery amount before paying for an expired name.

The dependable budget is still the regular renewal price paid before expiry.

6) Verify the current total before payment

You do not need to complete an order to see the key cost lines.

a) Open the direct .ng page

Use our direct .ng page and search the complete name. The direct product page is /domains/ng/; it is not the same as the namespace-wide price articles.

b) Review the term and extras

After selecting the exact .ng result, check the term selector and leave any optional service unticked unless you want it.

We do however recommend that you add these two:

• Domain privacy, and

• SSL Certificate

The screen also lets you keep our nameservers or enter another host’s values, but nameserver choice does not change the domain registration price.

c) Check both price lines

Select Continue and read the Product/Options row. It should show the price and cycle for the selected term, with the renewal amount underneath.

d) Match the amount due today

The order summary separates the current subtotal from the annual renewal total. If the total due today exceeds the selected domain term, return to configuration and review the extras.

7) Direct .ng costs more than some .ng alternatives

The query .ng domain price can refer either to the direct extension or to every zone that ends in .ng. They do not share one price.

A direct address such as brand.ng is shorter than brand.com.ng and carries a higher registration price in our current catalogue.

Other zones serve commercial, personal, network, school, university or government use cases, and some require evidence.

8) Decide on total cost, not one price tag

For a new direct .ng domain with no extras, budget ₦13,500.00 today and ₦15,000.00 for each later year at the current renewal rate.

Then compare the one-year and multi-year totals in the live configuration screen.
